My wife got me the coolest Christmas present: a home brew kit. It came with everything I’d need to get started. Even a kool-ade type brew kit. So began the Black Locust Brewing Company, named after the 100 year old black locust tree that graces our front yard and scares little kids on Halloween.

This crust was several months in the making. I started with a standard recipe for Italian bread (water, yeast, salt, and flour). That gave me descent results, but I promise it was nothing to write home about.

For some reason, I always remebered to pick up pepperoni and sun-dried tomatoes, but never could remember to get sauce.

This is a transcription of page 11 of my grandfather’s WWII recipe book. The original recipe makes eleven loaves (wow)! In case that’s a bit too much, there is a human-sized recipe in here as well.
